Gay Times

Gay Times has been a vital resource for the LGBTQ community since 1974. Whether that’s been spreading crucial awareness on policy changes and our global queer siblings’ ongoing fight for liberation, to the very latest in LGBTQ culture. Our mission is to represent the truly multifaceted nature of the queer community.

With the largest online audience of any queer publication in the world, we’re reaching more people than ever before, and continue to create and facilitate authentic connections with our vibrant worldwide community.

GAY TIMES 506 - We’ve brought back our Sounds Like Queer Spirit issue for a second year, showcasing and celebrating the musical brilliance of LGBTQ artists and advocates out there right now. We have little doubt that our three cover stars this month have already inspired a young queer kid to help understand who they are.

Alongside the poetic storytelling of Arlo Parks, the long-awaited debut album from Zebra Katz, rising star mxmtoon, hit-maker extraordinaire Tayla Parx, the return of La Roux, and much much more, this issue is packed full of queer excellence shaking up the music industry this year.

GAY TIMES 507 - This is certainly not the summer issue we'd initially planned, but the newly-named Solidarity Issue is built up of people, organisations, and creativity that aims to make queer people feel less alone in the world right now.

Now, more than ever, is a time for us to come together and remind each other that - even without our physical Pride spaces this year - we are stronger united. Stay safe and we hope you enjoy The Solidarity Issue.

GAY TIMES 508 - If you haven't already noticed, GAY TIMES has had a redesign! GAY TIMES Magazine is going to be the place where you will find insight and discussion on the issues and challenges that face LGBTQ+ people in the the UK and across the world. That will never change. But we also want it to be a place where queer people can be uplifted, inspired and have a moment of escapism. We have so much to celebrate within our diverse and vibrant community, and we want these pages to be filled with some of that joy too.

This marks an exciting new era for GAY TIMES Magazine, as well as the organisation as a whole. For more than 45 years we’ve adapted and grown with the core mission of keeping LGBTQ+ representation on the newsstand, queer visibility on your social feed, and the latest stories sent to your inbox. It’s been a challenging and transformative year for many of us, so we want to thank you all for your continued support. We can assure you that we don’t take it for granted. Enjoy the Autumn 2020 issue of GAY TIMES Magazine!

GAY TIMES 509 This year we’ve seen LGBTQ+ people achieve remarkable things. We’ve seen queer joy, happiness and success. Queer people continue to cultivate community and connection – even if we are socially distanced. And queer people have brought a lightness to many lives outside of our community, as well as within it. If the world is going to chuck a pandemic at us, we queers aren’t going to back down and just accept defeat. We rise. Every single time.

“We have an enormous survival instinct,” says Russell T Davies in one of our cover stories for our Winter 2020/21 issue. “We do keep going, no matter what.” His new Channel 4 drama, It’s A Sin, follows a group of young friends growing up in London during the 80s. What the show so brilliantly portrays is that in the darkness of the HIV/AIDS crisis that loomed over them, they all still celebrated life. It’s a tenacity queer people have displayed this year too.

When it comes to celebrating, no-one got a bigger cheer this year than Shea Couleé when she was crowned winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 5. Black Excellence at its finest, we think you’ll agree. For her first ever solo cover feature, we spoke with the reigning queen about her incredible year.
